Using OneSearch

Use OneSearch to find and access information for your studies and research.

You can retrieve an incredible range of useful resources, including items from UWA collections, full text articles, ebooks, databases and past exam papers.

An introduction to OneSearch

OneSearch is easy to use, but a few simple tips and tricks can save you time and improve your overall search experience.

Sign in to OneSearch to unlock useful features

  • Read full text of articles and ebooks when off campus.
  • Share, organise and save items and searches to My Favourites.
  • Request items on loan, from another library, or in another UWA library or store.
  • View past exam papers.
  • Get more search results.
  • Improve the relevance of your search results using Personalise.
  • View your loans and requests, renew loans and pay fines/fees in My Library Account.

Focus your search

Before you begin, choose what to search for.

  • OneSearch searches all of UWA Library’s online and physical collections and is the default search option. This option will provide the most search results.
  • Exclude Articles and Reviews will limit your search results to books, journals and other physical items located in the UWA Library in your search results. This is the best option if you are looking for a specific book.
  • WorldCat searches for books and other content from other libraries around the world. This option is useful if you would like to make a Get It request.

Refine your results

Improve the relevance of your search results by using the filters under ‘Modify my results’, on the left of the screen.

Find books in the library using OneSearch

On the results page you can see if a book is available, the library location of the book, and the number on the book’s spine (call number).

  • If a book is not available you may be able to request it (see next section).
  • The location of a book indicates both the Library building and which collection it is in.
  • The call number provides the exact location of the book on the shelf. Books in our libraries are ordered by this number.

Request using OneSearch

All UWA staff and students can place requests for:

  • books on loan
  • books and journals from store locations
  • books on the shelf at any UWA library

Regional and offshore staff and students can also request items and scanned digital copies.

Staff and Postgraduate students can use our Get It document delivery and interlibrary loan service to request resources not available at UWA.

Place a Get It request using the ‘Not held by UWA? Get It from another library’ option in OneSearch.

Find resources to request via Get It by using Expand my Search and Worldcat within OneSearch.
Expand my Search – Tick ‘Expand my Search’ to include resources without full text access.
WorldCat – When entering your search, select ‘WorldCat’ from the drop-down menu to search resources not held at UWA.

Get It requests can also be placed from the OneSearch banner. Fill in the form detailing the resource you require.

Sign in to OneSearch and view an item to see your request options.
