The Perth foreshore: Village green or urban waterfront
Russell Kingdom will trace the history of the reclamation of the foreshore and touch on some of the ideas for major development. He will then go on to discuss possible reasons why these proposals have not been implemented, and why we need to fully understand the significance of the foreshore and plan and conserve accordingly. He will include some slides regarding Point Fraser; how the wetlands works; why it is a successful project; and how we can learn from it.
About the Speaker
Russell Kingdom studied architecture in Sheffield, UK and then practiced architecture and urban design in London before migrating to Australia in 1988. Since then, he has worked on State Government development projects as well as for the Fremantle City Council before joining the City of Perth. He now leads the design office at the Capital City for major public infrastructure projects.
