Mr John Arfield
Designing a library for the 21st century

When the University completed Stage 1 of the new Science Library earlier this year it was received with overwhelming enthusiasm by the students. Within weeks, it had its own Facebook fan club and a music video singing its praises had had thousands of hits on YouTube. How can a building generate so much enthusiasm?

John Arfield, the University Librarian and Director (Information Management) will give an insight into the thinking that went into the design of the building and how, in a digital age, a library building can still be at the heart of a modern university. Stage 2 will be completed shortly and a tour of both parts of the building will be included in the evening.

Parking is available in the usual car park No. 3, first exit off Hackett Drive.
You will see from the campus map that the Science Library is
a few minutes walk from Reid Library.
