The Archbishop talks about the impact that migration has on personal and corporate life.
About the speaker:
Archbishop Herft was born in Wattegama, Sri Lanka, on 11 July 1948 and educated at Royal College, Colombo, after which he worked in the commercial sector until 1969. He entered the United Theological College of Lanka in Pilimatalawe (an Ecumenical University sponsored by the Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist and Baptist Churches with close affiliation to the Roman Catholic Seminary in Kandy). After ordination, Archbishop Herft served in rural and city parishes and as chaplain to the prisons in Colombo, and in 1986 was elected Bishop of Waikato, New Zealand. He was one of the youngest to be elected a bishop in the Anglican Communion at the time. In 1992 he was elected to Newcastle, New South Wales, and enthroned Bishop of Newcastle in 1993. In 2004 he was elected as the Seventh Archbishop of Perth and Metropolitan of the Province of Western Australia and was inaugurated on 11 June 2005.
