Students and UWA administrative staff
Students and UWA administrative staff may submit suggestions for new titles. All suggestions will be forwarded to the appropriate Subject Librarian or academic staff member for authorisation. Please contact your relevant Subject Librarian if you have any queries or special requirements.
UWA academic and Library staff
Academic and Library staff can recommend new materials. In some cases these recommendations need to be sent via the school's authorised selector. Contact your Subject Librarian or your Library Liaison Officer to find out if you need to do this.
If the recommendation is for a book or other non-subscription item such as a videorecording, DVD, music score or map, it can be made by either:
- sending an email to orders@library.uwa.edu.au, or
- submitting the online form

Refer to the guidelines below for more information on recommending books as well as other materials.
Journals, newspapers, and other subscription items
These are materials for which payment is recurrent, such as journals, newspapers, law reports, etc. They are generally referred to as 'serials'.
Allocating funds to new subscriptions requires careful consideration, as the commitment of funds is ongoing. Recommendations for new serials must have the endorsement of either the Head of School, or the Library Liaison Officer.
Subscriptions are usually paid in advance, so new orders cover the volumes/issues for the following year, not the current year. Recommendations for new subscriptions should be received by September each year.
Books, nonbook materials, and other non-subscription items
These are materials for which payment is non-recurrent, such as books, videorecordings, music scores, maps, etc. They are generally referred to as 'monographs'.
Recommendations for non-subscription materials can be made by completing an online form or a printed form, or by sending an email to orders@library.uwa.edu.au. Whichever method you choose, please ensure that you include your full name, school, the number of copies required, and indicate if the title is required urgently. Printed publisher information about an item can also be annotated with this information: if the item you are recommending is one of a list, highlight the required title or titles. Printed information should be forwarded to the Information Resources Access Management Section of the Library.
For staff who receive new title information via Blackwell's eNotes reports, a guide to recommending titles using Blackwell's eNotes
is available.
Materials required for the Reserve Collection can be recommended in the same ways. When ordering items for the Reserve Collection, please indicate the unit for which they are required. Recommendations for Reserve Collection materials are automatically treated as urgent.
Please ensure that you provide full details with your recommendations, to assist in their processing. Before submitting a recommendation, you may wish to check the UWA Library catalogue to see if the item is already held, or has been placed on order.
New title information
Information about new titles received from publishers and suppliers is distributed through subject libraries to academic staff. It is also available online from various booksellers, publishers and library vendors. Library staff can create personalised new title email alert services using publisher and vendor sources. Please contact your subject library for more information about this service.
