This page explains how HECS paying undergraduate students and continuing education students can access the resources and services provided to them by the University of Western Australia Library.

Resources in Albany

Copies of all books required for undergraduate courses run at the Albany Centre are held in the UWA Collection in the Albany Public Library and are listed in the Albany Public Library Catalogue.  You can join the Albany Public Library if you want to borrow items held there. Some course materials and videos are kept at the Albany Centre.

Requesting materials held in the UWA Library in Perth

If an item is not held in the UWA Collection in the Albany Public Library and is held in the UWA Library in Perth, you can request that the Library send you the item or a copy of the item. We can send you books, audiovisual items, copies of journal articles and copies of chapters of books. Please note: items in the Reserve Collection in Perth or 3 day loan items can not be sent to Albany. To check if an item is on Reserve or 3 day loan for your unit you will need to search Course Materials Online for your unit.

In order to request material from Perth, you will need to use the Library's document delivery service by submitting a Get It request.

You can borrow 30 items at one time from the UWA Library in Perth. Copied materials are not counted as items on loan. The items you request from the UWA Library in Perth will be delivered to the Albany Centre.  Books and other loanable items such as videos and DVDs must be returned to the Library in Perth by the due date. You can return items to the Albany Centre and staff will ensure that they are sent to the Library. The loan period for items is six weeks however the items may be recalled at any time and you will be given a new due date by which to return the items.  You cannot request or recall an item through the Library catalogue. You must use the Get It! service.

All requests for copied material must comply with The Australian Copyright Act. The Australian Copyright Act allows one chapter or ten per cent of a book, or one article from any one issue of a journal to be copied. 

Renewing your loans

Items can be renewed three times if they are not overdue or requested by another borrower. Overdue items cannot be renewed. They need to be returned to the Library.

Accessing the Library Web site from the UWA Albany Centre

You can access all Library Web site resources from anywhere with an internet connection, including the computers in the UWA Albany Centre.

The Library Web site provides you with access to a range of online information skills courses which we strongly encourage you to complete.
