Definition of staff and students in regional areas
These services are available to UWA staff and students who are living in Australia but outside the Perth metropolitan area. Regional students include those postgraduate and honours students enrolled in the Albany Centre and those living on Christmas Island.
If you are an undergraduate enrolled at the Albany Centre the information appearing below may not apply. Please see the information to be found on this web page: Services for undergraduate students at the Albany Centre.

Obtaining items from the UWA Library in Perth
If an item is held in the UWA Library in Perth, regional staff and students, including regional undergraduate students, can request that the Library send them the item or a copy of the item. We can forward books, audiovisual items (such as videos, DVDs or music CDs), copies of journal articles and copies of chapters of books.
You can borrow an unlimited number of items from the UWA Library in Perth. The loan period is for the semester. However items may be recalled at any time by other Library borrowers. In these cases you will be given a new due date by which to return the items. Copied materials are not counted as items on loan and you do not need to return them to the Library. Books and other items must be returned to the Library by the due date. Items can be renewed by phone three times if they are not overdue or requested by another borrower. You can check what items you have borrowed and when they are due back by going online via the My Library Loans page. (As a regional student you cannot renew your loans online unlike other students).
Inter-library loan and document delivery service
This service is available to undergraduate students completing their honours year, postgraduate students, UWA staff and other special cases, including students with the Rural Clinical School.
If an item is not held in the UWA Library it may be possible to obtain it from other libraries through the Library's inter-library loan and document delivery service (Get It!). You can request books and audiovisual items, copies of journal articles, and copies of chapters in books. Copied material is usually sent to you in the form of PDF documents.
Inter-library loan items (from libraries other than UWA Library) such as books, videos and DVDs cannot be renewed and must be returned to the Library by the due date.
Requesting material
You must complete a Get It request form to obtain material held at the UWA Library in Perth or to obtain material from other libraries. Submit one online request via Get It for each item required. (Please note that Albany undergraduate students cannot submit requests for material not held at UWA library).
All requests for copied material must comply with The Australian Copyright Act. The Australian Copyright Act allows one chapter or ten per cent of a book, or one article from any one issue of a journal to be copied.
The items you request will be delivered by Australia Post Express Post. Books and other items must be returned to the Library by the due date. A pre-paid addressed Express post satchel will be sent to you with the items you request. Please use this satchel to return items to the Library. Items for Albany and Geraldton Centre undergraduate students will be sent (and should be returned) to the Centres. Copies of journal articles or book chapters are normally delivered online in the PDF format.
