To borrow material from the UWA Library, it is necessary to be registered as a Library member. Registration will enable you to borrow books and other resources, as set out in the Library rules. Some materials, such as journals and reference books, may not be borrowed. Due to licence restrictions, some electronic resources may only be available to certain categories of members.

All UWA students and staff are automatically registered as Library borrowers. Your UWA Campus Card serves as your Library card.

Other categories of membership are outlined below:

Visitors to UWA faculties and schools

Visiting staff in faculties and schools who wish to join the Library need a Visitor Campus Card. Visitor application forms for Campus Cards must be signed by the Head of School or Centre (or delegated officer).

UWA Graduate Association members

Active members of Convocation, the UWA Graduate Association, are eligible to apply for Affiliate Library membership at a discounted rate of $99 per annum, or $49.50 for 6 months. Members will receive a UWA Campus Card that serves as their Library card. To apply for or renew Affiliate membership, please contact Convocation - the UWA Graduate Association. Membership includes access to a selection of online databases.

UWA Retirees

Retired staff members of UWA are eligible to apply for Affiliate Library membership. Members will receive a UWA Campus Card that serves as their Library card. To apply for Community membership, print out and complete the Community and Affiliate Membership Application Form [PDF; 77K].

Friends of the UWA Library

The Friends of the University of Western Australia Library support the Library by increasing interest in it, and by acquiring donations for it. Through the Friends, members are eligible to apply for Affiliate Library membership at a discounted rate of $99 per annum, or $49.50 for 6 months. Members will receive a UWA Campus Card that serves as their Library card. To apply for Affiliate membership, print out and complete the Community and Affiliate Membership Application Form [PDF; 77K]. Please present the completed form to staff at one of the UWA subject libraries and have some form of personal identification with you (e.g. driver's licence).

Staff and students from other Western Australian universities

Students and staff members from Curtin University of Technology, Edith Cowan University and Murdoch University can apply to register as reciprocal borrowers at the UWA Library.

Staff and students from other Australian universities

Students and staff from participating Australian university libraries outside of Western Australia can apply to register as a borrower under the University Library Australia national borrowing scheme for staff and students, at the UWA Library. The scheme operates at the discretion of the loaning University Library and local restrictions may apply.

Community Members

Members of the public may apply to register as Community Members. Fees for individual Community Membership are $165 per annum, or $82.50 for 6 months.  Members will receive a UWA Campus Card that serves as their Library card. To apply for Community membership, print out and complete the Community and Affiliate Membership Application Form [PDF; 77K]. Please present the completed form to staff at one of the UWA subject libraries and have some form of personal identification with you (e.g. driver's licence).
