Getting started with Get It!

Requesting books

  1. Use your UWA number and Barcode number to sign in to Get It!
  2. Enter search terms into Title, Author, ISBN or a combination of fields using the pull down menus
  3. Click on Go
  4. From the results list find the item that best matches your needs. It doesn’t matter which Library the result is from, as long as the item is not held at UWA.
    • To see more details about any record, click on the Details link.
    • To navigate through the results list, use the Previous Record or Next Record links.
    • To return to the resulsts list, click on Search Results in the Results menu.
  5. When you are satisfied, click on the Get It icon
  6. From the Record Details screen, click on Get It!
  7. On the Request Item screen check the details of the item you are requesting
  8. Leave the Service field as Loan
  9. Do not select anything in the Holdings section at the bottom of the screen. The Library will obtain an available item for you.
  10. Enter any additional notes in the Special Instructions box- these should include:
    • any special requirements in terms of urgent supply  (needed by date is essential for requests to be treated as urgent)
    • any information you have that will help locate the item, including the source of your reference (optional)
  11. Click Submit
  12. To begin a new request select Search and Request or Sign out if no further requesting is required

Requesting a chapter from a book

  1. Use your UWA number and Barcode number to sign in to Get It!
  2. Enter search terms into Title, Author, ISBN or a combination of fields using the pull down menus
  3. Click on Go
  4. From the results list find the item that best matches your needs. It doesn’t matter which Library the result is from, as long as the item is not held at UWA.
    • To see more details about any record, click on the Details link.
    • To navigate through the results list, use the Previous Record or Next Record links.
    • To return to the results list, click on Search Results in the Results menu.
  5. When you are satisfied, click on the Get It icon
  6. From the Record Details screen, click on Get It!
  7. On the Request Item screen check the details of the item you are requesting
  8. Change the Service field to Copy
  9. Do not select anything in the Holdings section at the bottom of the screen. The Library will obtain an available item for you.
  10. Enter the Part Details as required (Author/Title/Pages)
  11. Enter any additional notes in the Special Instructions box- these should include:
    • any special requirements in terms of urgent supply  (needed by date is essential for requests to be treated as urgent)
    • any information you have that will help locate the item, including the source of your reference (optional)    
  12. Click Submit
  13. You will see a Copyright Notification screen asking you to accept the copyright declaration
  14. Click Submit

Requesting journal articles

  1. Use your UWA number and Barcode number to sign in to Get It!
  2. Enter search terms into Title, ISSN or a combination of fields using the pull down menus
  3. Click on Go
  4. From the results list find the item that best matches your needs. It doesn’t matter which Library the result is from, as long as the item is not held at UWA.
    • To see more details about any record, click on the Details link.
    • To navigate through the results list, use the Previous Record or Next Record links.
    • To return to the results list, click on Search Results in the Results menu.
    • If possible avoid using Electronic Resources as these often have different bibliographic details and may not be available for document delivery.
  5. When you are satisfied with your selection, click on the Get It icon
  6. From the Record Details screen, click on Get It!
  7. On the Request Item screen enter the Part Details as required (Author/Title/Date/Volume/Pages)
  8. Do not select anything in the Holdings section at the bottom of the screen. The Library will obtain an available item for you.
  9. Enter any additional notes in the Special Instructions box- these should include:
    • any special requirements in terms of urgent supply  (needed by date is essential for requests to be treated as urgent)
    • any information you have that will help locate the item, including the source of your reference (optional)    
  10. Click Submit
  11. You will see a Copyright Notification screen asking you to accept the copyright declaration
  12. Click Submit

Can't find what you are looking for?

If you can not locate a record for the item you require when you use the Search & Request then please click on the Blank Form link located at the bottom of your search results screen and fill in all details of the item you require. If possible please include an ISBN or ISSN.

Cancelling requests

To cancel a request please contact library staff by email at Ask a Librarian, or by phone on 6488 2982

Viewing documents

An email will be sent to you notifying you when a document has arrived. Alternatively, to check on and view requested documents log in to Get It, go to My Requests and click on the link to the pdf listed under attached documents.  Documents will stay on the Get It system 10 days after first viewed.
