Document delivery services for material not held in the UWA Library

Library home > This page

Introduction

This service is only available to UWA staff, postgraduates, and honours and selected fourth and final year undergraduate students.

How to place a request

Check to make sure the Library does not hold the item. You can submit your document delivery request electronically.  There is no limit to the number of requests, but try to limit your requests to 10 per day. It may be difficult to handle large numbers of requests simultaneously.

It is very important that you give a full and accurate citation for the material you want. Otherwise we - and our suppliers - will have difficulty working out what you actually want.

Please note that copyright provisions must be observed, hence the requirement to have a separate request for each item.

When you are ready to make a request log in to Get It

How long will it take?

This varies greatly, depending on several factors including where the material is coming from or how hard it is to identify sources of supply. On average, you should allow one to two weeks.

There are some types of material which are unlikely to be lent or copied, even if they are held in Australia: bibliographies and other reference books, rare books and limited editions, books in heavy use, current year of publication and so on.

Need it urgently?

If you need an item urgently you can indicate this option on the Get It request form. We then try to source the item as a Rush request for delivery within 48 hours. Please do not indicate an item is urgent unless you need the item in less than 3 days.

If it is absolutely necessary to request an item as urgent please enter a Wanted By date so we can ascertain the best supplier. Please note that urgent loans can be delayed by the lending rules, location and mail system of the supplier.

Costs and charges

The cost of a loan or photocopy depends on the source of supply and on the service level requested.

Most Australian libraries charge $13.20 (incl. GST) for a standard (Core) request.
Rush service will cost at least $26.20 per request, plus courier charges if applicable.
Priority service will cost at least $19.80 per request, plus courier charges if applicable.

Commercial and overseas suppliers are more expensive.

Each faculty has an annual allocation in the Library's budget for document delivery and interlibrary loans. Check with your Subject Library or your department or school's Library Liaison Officer for more information.

Only materials related to UWA activities (teaching and learning, study, research, administration) may be requested against the Faculty allocations.

Getting a photocopy of an entire book

If you need to get a microform copy or photocopy of an entire book or manuscript (where copyright laws permit this), you must be prepared to pay for this service. We will try to get a quote for requests of this kind.
