The University Library's information resources budget is divided into two main parts:
Library Allocation which covers:
Faculty Allocation (larger division of the budget) primarily for research needs, including:
Teaching materials also may be ordered from the "Faculty" section of the budget.
Faculty allocations are determined by a formula. Each faculty may advise the Library how its allocation should be further distributed between schools or other cost centres. To enable effective accounting of funds, the Library allots to each cost centre a separate allocation for subscriptions and monographs (or other non-serial items). These are notional amounts which can be adjusted according to the wishes of a faculty or school.
To assist the Library to meet budget commitment deadlines, please submit order requests regularly throughout the year and, where possible, prior to the beginning of December.
Statements of expenditure and commitment are sent with lists of proposed serials cancellations to school Library Liaison Officers and Heads of Schools each month. Interim updates are available from Budget and Planning staff in Information Resources Access Management, or from the relevant subject library manager.
