ISBN information

The ISBN is a unique code for the identification of printed books, pamphlets, microform publications, software and multimedia kits containing printed material. The 10-digit number is used whenever information on these products needs to be recorded or communicated, as it identifies title, publisher, binding and edition.

A new international standard is expanding the current 10-digit ISBN to a 13-digit ISBN. The official date for this new standard is January 1 2007, but some publishers started printing both the current 10- and the new 13-digit ISBNs in material towards the end of 2004.

Any books or reports published within UWA require an ISBN.

The Publications Unit have authority to allocate ISBNs for UWA. Please visit the Publications Unit for further details or an application form.
