Information on how to place items in the High Demand Collection is available.

The High Demand Collection contains physical course material items essential for your units. It is separate from the main collection and consists of items in high demand, including books, audiovisual material and, where appropriate, course readers.

Items in the High Demand Collection for your unit can be located through OneSearch and form part of Unit Readings.

Each library at UWA has its own High Demand Collection.

Items in the High Demand Collection have a limited borrowing time of three hours.

How do I borrow?

UWA Students, Staff, and Visitor Card holders can borrow a maximum of two High Demand items at a time. The loan period for High Demand items is three hours. These items can be taken out of the library.

You can borrow High Demand items overnight under the following conditions.  If you borrow after 5pm (Mon-Thurs); or after 2pm (Fri-Sun) the items will automatically check out for an overnight loan, however the items will be due on the following day before 9am (Mon-Fri) and before 10am (Sat/Sun). You cannot renew a High Demand loan before 9am the following day if you have taken it out the night before.

How do I renew?

You can renew your High Demand loans via My Library Account, the self-check machines, visiting the Information Desk, or by contacting the University Library. Loans can be renewed within one hour of the due time, except overnight loans. The maximum renewal time for an item is 6 hours in total. Overnight loans cannot be renewed the following morning.

Can I book a High Demand item?

How do I return items?

High Demand items need to be returned to the designated High Demand returns area of the library from which they were borrowed, during library opening hours. Please do not return them through the main returns chutes during library opening hours as delays in processing could mean you accrue fines.

At the Reid, Beasley Law, Barry J Marshall and EDFAA libraries, you are required to return items yourself using the self-check machine in the High Demand areas.

Can I return High Demand items after hours?

Each library has an overnight returns chute where you can also return items when the libraries are closed. Items placed in the after-hours returns chute when the library is closed are backdated to return on the date and time the library was last open. Please note that only Law students can access the Beasley Law Library’s overnight return chute.

What are the fines for overdue items?

If you fail to return your High Demand items by the specified times it can greatly inconvenience other library users. Items not returned or renewed within the three hour loan period will incur fines. Fines accrue at a rate of $3 for every hour the item(s) or part thereof the item(s) are late to a maximum of $60. Once your Library Account accrues fines beyond $24 your library borrowing privileges will be suspended until the total fine is paid.

How will I know when something is overdue?

To avoid fines items must be returned by the time listed on the printed receipt you will get from our self-check machines. If you renew online, please check My Library Account for the new due date/time. Any overdue items on your account will be marked in orange with a clock icon and the due date/time:
