The Library's online information skills courses use a software platform called WebCT. Following are a few tips to help you get started in doing a course.

1. Course homepage

On the first pages of your course are listed the:

  • Course outline - provides an overview of the goals of the course
  • Content modules - contain the content of the course
  • Quizzes - Courses may include quizzes. These may be used for assessment depending on the course. The course outline will specify whether this is the case or not.
  • Print - allows you to print off all or selected pages from the content modules.

2. Table of Contents

When you click on a course content module, the first page you will be taken to is the Table of contents. This outlines the major sections of the module. You can click on any heading and it will take you to that part of the module.

3. Navigation

In InfoPathways you can navigate through the course using the buttons provided.

In other Library WebCT courses you scroll through the pages using the Action menu at the top of each page. There is also a button to return you to the Table of Contents.

A listing of the path you have taken through the course is called the "breadcrumb trail". It appears at the top of each page. The "Homepage" link will return you to the Course homepage.
