SNAP: Network your laptop in the Library

Library home > This page

The Student Network Access Project (SNAP) is an initiative of the University Library, working with Information Technology Services (ITS). SNAP allows registered students to connect to the Library's network in order to access PARNet and the general Internet.

Although SNAP usage is charged like any other ITS Internet account, it does offer students the advantage of using their own computer, with their own software, when working within the Library. Download speeds are comparable to the Library's computers and significantly faster than most home modems. SNAP-enabled students do not need to queue for Library computers, which are always in demand.

The Library offers students a choice between wired (plugging your laptop into a network port) and wireless (transmitting data over radio waves) SNAP connections. There are many SNAP connection ports and wireless zones in the University subject libraries, and more are being added each year.
