Finding books

To find books in the UWA Library on a particular topic, begin with a keyword search in the Library Catalogue.

UWA Library catalogue

As you are browsing through the list of books, look at the Subject Headings listed in each catalogue entry. Click on the links to relevant Subject Headings to find more books on your topic.

You can also search catalogues at other WA libraries'. The State Library of Western Australian holds an extensive collection of local materials, of which some can be accessed online.

It is always worthwhile checking to see if a bibliography has been produced on your topic. There are specialised bibliographies in the EDFAA Collection for example:

Women artists: a historical, contemporary and feminist bibliography - 709.22 1994 WOM.

You should also check bibliographies at the end of encyclopedia entries.

Research tips

Keep a record of where you have searched for information and, if using electronic databases, print out your search profile. Keeping a copy of your research strategies will make it easier to verify references at a later date.

Ensure that you keep complete details of your reference. This strategy makes it easier to compile a bibliography later.
