Regional and offshore

We provide services for regional and offshore UWA students and staff.

Services are available to UWA students and staff who are living in Australia but outside the Perth metropolitan area, including postgraduate and honours students enrolled in the Albany Centre and those living on Christmas Island, as well as those living outside of Australia.

Visiting Perth

If you are planning to visit Perth, you can make an appointment with a librarian in your subject area. They will help you make best use of library resources during your time in Perth.

Requesting materials held in the UWA Library collection in Perth

Requesting items

If an item is held in Perth, regional students and staff, including undergraduates, can request the Library to send them the item or a photocopy of the item. We can forward books, audiovisual items (such as videos, DVDs or music CDs) and copies of journal articles or book chapters.

To request an item you must complete a Get It request form.

Conditions of lending
  • You can check online which items you have borrowed and when they are due back via My Library Account.
  • When requested by another borrower, items must be returned by the new due date shown on the Library notice. Please note that items returned via the Albany Centre take up to 4 business days to reach UWA in Perth.
  • Regional patrons may recall items already on loan to another student. In order to do this, use the Get It service. Regional and offshore staff and students cannot recall items using the request function in OneSearch.
  • High Demand loan items located in Perth are not able to be requested by regional or offshore staff or students.
Renewals

Non-equipment loans may be renewed an unlimited number of times online from My Library Account. Items cannot be renewed if they are overdue or have been requested by another borrower.

Albany Centre:

Return items through the Albany Centre by placing them in an envelope addressed to Document Delivery(M209). Please allow enough time for them to reach Perth by the due date.

All other regional staff and students

A pre-paid addressed Express Post satchel will be sent to you with the item you requested. Please use this to return the item to the Library before the due date.

Offshore patrons

Offshore patrons are responsible for the cost of returning loans to UWA.

Copies of book chapters and journal articles

All regional and offshore students and staff can ask us to send you copies of material held in the Library, including copies of journal articles and book chapters. These are normally delivered online via Get It in PDF format.

All requests for copied material must comply with The Australian Copyright Act. The Australian Copyright Act allows one chapter or 10 per cent of a book to be copied. One article from any issue of a journal can be copied. More than one article in any issue of a journal can be copied only if the articles are on exactly the same topic.

Copied materials delivered in this way do not need to be returned to the Library.

Resources in Albany

UWA students and staff may access the UWA collection in the Albany Public Library. UWA collection items are listed in the Albany Public Library Catalogue.

You will need to join the Albany Public Library if you wish to borrow items held there. Audiovisual materials are held in the Albany Centre and are listed in OneSearch.

All of the online resources on the Library's website can be accessed from anywhere with an internet connection, including the computers in the UWA Albany Centre.

Requesting materials not held in the UWA Library collection in Perth

All regional and offshore undergraduate students completing their honours year, postgraduate students, UWA staff and other special cases, including students with the Rural Clinical School, are eligible to place requests through Get It for items which are not held in the UWA Library collection in Perth.

In these cases we will endeavour to obtain the item from other libraries through Get It. You can request books and audiovisual items and copies of journal articles and book chapters. Copied material is usually sent to you in the form of PDF documents.

Inter-library loan items cannot be renewed and must be returned to the Library by the due date.

Course Materials Online

Resources identified by your unit lecturers as important for your units are listed in the Course Materials Online (CMO) section of this website.

Material listed in CMO may consist of books, book chapters, journal articles, selected cases and legislation, or government reports. Where possible we have digitised this material into a full-text format which can be accessed from this website.

Course Materials Online also provides links to the full text of past examination papers where available.

For Albany students, all books identified by your unit co-ordinator as essential will be available at the Albany Public Library. For any course materials required that aren’t held at Albany Public Library (for Albany students) or aren’t available online via CMO, consult with your tutor.
