The UWA Library DigiTheses project was a local initiative which sought to digitise and mount online Masters by research and PhD theses. Such theses are usually bound and made available through the Library's Scholars Centre. Although most theses are available for all to read, the information contained within these works is not as accessible as it could be. Offering access to digital copies of theses via the World Wide Web will promote the research activities of the University and its staff to the national and international research communities.

The UWA Library DigiTheses project integrates with the national Australian Digital Theses initiative. In October 2002, the ADT national register of digitised theses contained 800 titles, sourced from 26 Australian universities.

ADT parallels the development of the Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD) program in the United States, a development of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

The project was successfully completed in August 2003. Digital theses are now being added to the Library catalogue.
