A National Database of Electronic Finding Aids

Six Australian libraries, led by the University of Western Australia, have collaborated to build a national database of finding aids - electronic guides - to collections of Australian literary manuscripts. The Encoded Archival Description (EAD) format serves as the basis of this service, with national guidelines and a national training strategy being developed to promote its wider use.

The project has greatly enhanced access for researchers to consistent and detailed information about collections of Australian manuscripts. It has established a national model for access to the contents of archives and manuscript collections, and significantly enhances the value of existing Australian and international research infrastructure in this field.

The Guide to Australian Literary Manuscripts was launched in June 2001.

This project received funding from the Australian Research Council's Research Infrastructure Equipment and Facilities (RIEF) Scheme.
