Our response to your feedback

You told us you would like better access to computers/Internet/software - so far we have:

  • Acquired an additional 23 PCs in the HSS Library.
  • Acquired an additional 6 PCs in the Business Library.
  • Acquired an additional 5 PCs in the EDFAA Library.
  • Acquired an additional 10 PCs in the Medical and Dental Library.
  • Provided SNAP access throughout each Library.
  • Provided additional power points and data ports in each library.
  • Provided powered lap top lockers in each library.
  • Provided SNAP printing in each library.
  • Upgraded our standard operating environment including the provision for the first time of App Recovery, Visio Viewer, Word to PDF converter, Picture Manager, Photo Gallery, Snipping Tool, Scientific Calculator, Notepad, Paint, Ease of Access Centre, IE7, Endnote X.1, Sophos Antivirus and Scientific Notation tools for Excel.
  • Upgraded to a full media file which provides ability to watch DVDs thru Media Player.
  • Installed TeamSpot in a group study room in the Business Library to facilitate improved group work for any UWA students.
  • Started trialling a portable document camera that captures images of objects  in the Maths and Physical Sciences Library.

 Did you know that you can use the computing facilities in any of the UWA libraries?

 You told us you wanted more access to journals - so far we have:

  • Visited each faculty to determine the need for additional journal titles.
  • Upgraded to Nature Platinum.
  • Purchased Primal Pictures, an anatomy image database.
  • Subscribed to a large number of new full text journal collections online across all subject areas.
  • Extended the availability of journals online by purchasing large back issues of electronic journals including:

The entire Nature backset

The Oxford journals archive

The entire Web of Knowledge backset

The Biological Abstracts backset

The Wiley psychology backfiles

Did you know that the Library provides access to nearly 70,000 different journal titles across all subject areas?


You told us making electronic resources accessible from your home or office is important to you - so far we have:

  • Continued to make sure that most of the electronic journals and e-books that we hold are available to you from your home or office.
  • Ensured that your Course Materials Online and past exam papers are available to you electronically including via WebCT.

Did you know that the Library subscribes to over 60,000 different journal titles and over 15,000 e-books that you can access electronically from your home or office?

You told us you wanted Library space that inspires study and learning - so far we have:

  • Extensively refurbished the Music Library including the provision of group study rooms.
  • Addressed the issue of noise in the Library with the use of ‘zones’ for various levels of sound.
  • Installed a CellZone mobile phone booth in the Biological Sciences library to allow you  to  take or make calls in the Library without disturbing others.
  • Provided new lounge chairs in the Business Library.
  • Provided additional lounge chairs in the HSS Library.
  • Provided a new training room with PCs in the Medical and Dental Library.
  • Provided a new group study room with PCs in the EDFAA Library.

You told us that you wanted more of the electronic information resources that you need – so far we have:

  • Provided online reading lists (recommended by Unit Coordinators) that include access to full text readings via the Course Materials Online service. These reading lists include links to articles and law cases available in our subscribed databases, digitized chapters of books, websites and other useful reading material.
  • Included links to past exam papers from Course Materials Online.
  • Added a further 205 titles to our collection of electronic resources (including e-books).

Did you know that your reading lists are available via WebCT?

You told us that you wanted subject specialist assistance – so far we have:

  • Extended the librarian service so that specialist assistance is available in person, by phone and by e-mail for each of the Library’s opening hours? 

You told us that you wanted help in identifying reliable sources of information – so far we have:

  • Extended the IRIS (Introductory Research and Information Skills) programme to include students in the Business School and science faculties. 
  • Worked with the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health Sciences to develop the BRAIN (Beginner Research and Information Network) program.
  • Commenced the development of the Post Graduate Online Scholarly Literacy program.
  • Extended our librarian service so that you can get help in finding reliable sources of information for all hours that the Library is open.
  • Implemented SpringShare LibGuides to improve access to trustworthy and recommended sources of information for different subject areas.

Did you know that we also:

  • Conduct regular information sessions on resource locating tools such as SuperSearch and Find it @ UWA.
  • Offer an online introductory course InfoPathways that shows you how to locate, and evaluate the information you need for your studies.
