The Library advertises vacant positions in Saturday’s edition of ‘The West Australian’ when they become available. These vacancies are also advertised on the UWA job vacancy page.

The following types of employment are advertised:

To apply for advertised positions, please follow the instructions in the advertisement. All UWA Library positions require that you possess Australian or New Zealand citizenship or a visa that entitles you to work in Australia. Information on how to apply for a job is available at the Centre for Staff Development’s web site.

Information for potential applicants

Librarian Positions

Librarians work mainly in the information services and cataloguing areas. These positions require a University degree and prospective applicants must be eligible for Associate Membership of Australian Library and Information Association.

Library Officer Positions

Library Officer

These positions are advertised once or twice a year. They require completion of Year 12 or equivalent competency. Following interviews, the names of successful interviewees are listed in order of merit. Vacant positions are filled from this list as they become available.

Library Officer 2 and 3

These are mainly supervisory positions. They require a library technician qualification or completion of Year 12 and substantial work experience in a library.

Administration Positions

Administration positions may be in the areas of accounts, human resources, personnel, copying services or general administration.

Information Technology Positions

Information Technology positions are either advertised or recruited through an industry specific employment agency.

Student Casual Library Officers

The Library employs currently enrolled UWA students for casual work throughout each year, primarily during semesters. Students are employed to work on a range of Library tasks including the inquiry counters, shelving, and equipment use and maintenance. They may also be employed in the Copying Services unit to carry out photocopying and provide counter assistance and also in the Administration Section to assist with short term projects.

Advertisement and recruitment occurs in the latter half of each year.
