The University Collection contains published material produced by bodies associated with the University of Western Australia, notably the Guild of Undergraduates and the University of Western Australia Press. It also houses works published about the University and its activities. It includes examination papers, minutes and annual reports of the Senate, and University handbooks. The Library maintains the University Collection in order to provide a permanent collection of published material reflecting the activities of the University.

Unpublished material is not normally included in the University Collection. The only significant exceptions are minutes and agendas of the University's main decision-making bodies, and examination papers. The University Archives are responsible for collecting the administrative records of the University.

The Manuscript Collection in the Scholars' Centre also contains collections of papers of several former staff members of the University, including Fred Alexander, F.R.E. Mauldon, C. Sanders, W. Somerville, and C. E. Weatherburn.
