Printed theses

The Library maintains a separate collection of theses as a record of research carried out at the University of Western Australia. The collection is of considerable value to researchers in the University and at universities and other research institutions both national and international.

The earliest thesis in the collection is a Master of Arts dating from 1915, only two years after the University opened. There are now more than 6,500 theses in the collection.

A number of prominent Australians have studied for higher degrees at The University of Western Australia. The collection includes theses by:

  • H.C. ("Nugget") Coombs, public servant (MA, 1931)
  • David Mossenson, educational administrator (MA, 1952; PhD, 1961)
  • Geoffrey Bolton, Australian historian (MA, 1953)
  • Peter Tannock, educational administrator and football commissioner (MEd, 1964)
  • David Tunley, musicologist (DLitt, 1969)
  • Kim Beazley, Labor politician and former Leader of the Opposition (MA, 1974)
  • Carmen Lawrence, Labor politician and former Premier of Western Australia (PhD, 1982)
  • Fiona Stanley, medical researcher (MD, 1985)

UWA theses are available through the Library's catalogue. A guide is available to help you locate theses by Faculty, School, Department or Discipline Group.
