The Frank Broeze Memorial Library contains the collection of the late Professor Frank Broeze, formerly of the Department of History at the University of Western Australia, who died in 2001. It includes a wide range of books, journals and papers relating to maritime history and shipping, together with more general books on modern political and economic history.
A particularly important aspect of the collection is its considerable amount of Dutch and German material, including books on early Dutch commerce, and on the port of Hamburg.
Professor Broeze was a leading international scholar in the field of maritime history. As well as maintaining a remarkably productive record of research and publication, he served as President of the International Commission of Maritime History and as Deputy Chair of the Board of the Western Australian Maritime Museum.
He was also a dedicated teacher who inspired generations of students with his enthusiastic approach to modern history.
